It is winter time and most of you have already felt the change in climate. With a cold breeze all the time, blowing your hair and caressing you throughout the day makes you feel fresh all day. You had waited for a whole year to feel this climate, and you indeed feel good when you get to feel that ‘cold’ you have been waiting for so long.
But, do you have any idea of the places in India which are colder even more than you can imagine? Now, that is a tough question indeed. Yes, there are any places in India which lies below zero degree irrespective of the change in climate. Be it the summer, winter, spring or autumn – you will always see snowfalls, fog and feels really cold all the time.
Now, let me take you to some of the places in India which has an extreme winter climate and are said to be the coldest places in India.
Leh which was the capital of Ladakh, situated in the Himalayas is now a part of our Jammu And Kashmir. It is the second largest district in the country. It is below freezing point during winter season and even gets snowfall occasionally. The weather is otherwise normal during rest of the months.
It is said to be very cold till February, starting from the winter season. The minimum temperature can go down to -4 degree Celsius. It will be freezing cold and will see heavy snowfall during winter.
Drass is regarded as the second coldest place in the whole world, the first being Siberia. It records a temperature of -40 degree Celsius during the winter season. Drass has an altitude of 3230 m and lies 60 km west of Kargil on the road to Srinagar.
It will be extremely cold during the winter season in Munsiyari, which is said to prolong till the mid of March. The temperature will be below zero degree Celsius and can even reach upto -4 degree Celsius. You cannot survive the extreme climate without a woolen jacket for sure!
Tawang is a district in Arunachal Pradesh. The place will be extremely cold during winters. Temperature varies from -13 to 5 degree Celsius. January is said to be the coldest month here.
Kufri is a small hill station in Shimla. Winters are highly cold with average temperature reaching sub zero levels. It promotes snowfall games and other activities related to snow as part of its tourism. You can go for skiing and other activities in Kufri during winter. But, it is t be taken care that you carry woolen clothes along with you.
